Classroom Timer
Classroom · Reception–Year 6
Big digits and a dial that empties. Chimes when the time is up.
About the timer
A countdown built for the front of a room. The digits are large enough to read from the back, and the dial empties like a sand timer so a class can see roughly how long is left without reading the numbers at all.
The dial changes colour as the time goes: green while there is plenty, amber at a quarter left, red in the last ten seconds. That gives children who cannot yet read a clock face something to work from.
Tap anywhere to start and pause, so it keeps working in fullscreen with the controls put away. Presets cover thirty seconds to ten minutes, and More sets any length up to an hour.
It chimes three soft notes when it finishes. You can turn that off if a quiet finish suits the lesson better.
How to use it on your whiteboard
- 1Pick a length, then tap anywhere to start.
- 2Tap again to pause, and once more to carry on.
- 3Reset puts the full time back on the clock.
- 4Under More you can set any length and turn the chime off.
- 5Tap Fullscreen so the timer fills the board.
Questions
- Does it keep time if I change tab?
- Yes. The time is measured from the clock rather than counted frame by frame, so it stays accurate even if the browser slows the tab down in the background.
- Can I turn the sound off?
- Yes, under More. It is on by default, and it only ever plays after you have tapped Start, so it cannot go off unexpectedly.
- What is the longest I can set?
- One hour. The digits switch to hours, minutes and seconds once there is an hour on the clock.
