Random Name Picker
Classroom · Reception–Year 6
Paste your class list once. Everyone gets a turn before anyone repeats.
About the name picker
Paste your class list in once and it is remembered on that computer, so the whiteboard in your room is set up for the rest of the year. There is no account to make, because there is no account to make anywhere on this site.
Everyone gets a turn is on by default. A name comes out of the hat when it is picked, and the tool tells you how many are still to come and shows who has already been. A picker that can choose the same child twice in a row is worse than a hat, because the class notices and it stops feeling fair.
The name fills the board, and it shrinks to fit so a longer name is never cut off.
Tapping anywhere picks, so it works in fullscreen with the controls put away.
How to use it on your whiteboard
- 1Tap Names and paste your class list, one per line or separated by commas.
- 2Tap anywhere to pick a name.
- 3The names already picked are shown underneath, with how many are left.
- 4Start again puts everyone back in the hat.
- 5Turn Everyone gets a turn off if you want names to be able to repeat.
Questions
- Do I have to type my class in every time?
- No. The list is saved in that browser, so the computer in your classroom keeps it. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no account.
- Can it avoid picking the same child twice?
- Yes, and it does by default. Once everyone has had a turn it says so rather than starting over quietly.
- How many names can I add?
- Up to sixty, which covers a class and a half.
