Fantasy Worlds
Early Years · Reception–Year 1
Fuzzy felt sea, space, castle and superheroes, with the story played back.
About the fantasy worlds
Four fuzzy felt boards for stories: under the sea, space, a fairytale castle and superheroes. Put the jellyfish, the shark, the lobster and the fish in the sea and they swim about. Build the rocket from its pieces, put the alien inside, and fly it to the planet.
At the castle, both children start in a vest and shorts, and the dress, the tunic, the cape and the crowns go on whichever child they are dropped on. It is dressing up, and a board that refused a costume would be marking a child's choice wrong. Then ride the unicorns, and go into the castle.
The superheroes put on their capes and masks and fly over the city. Take the loot away from the robber and take the robber to jail.
Press Play and the board tells the story back from the beginning, one step at a time, with a line underneath saying what happened. Making up a story and then hearing it told back is the whole of what this is for.
Nothing is marked wrong anywhere. A piece put down somewhere it does not belong just stays there.
How to use it on your whiteboard
- 1Choose a scene: Sea, Space, Castle or Heroes.
- 2Drag a piece. The place it can go glows gold, and it goes there when you let go.
- 3Drag a costume onto a child or a hero to put it on.
- 4Press Play to watch the story told back from the start.
- 5Press Start again to put everything back.
Questions
- Who wears the dress?
- Whoever it is dropped on. Both children start in a vest and shorts, and every costume fits either of them.
- How do you build the rocket?
- The body is on the launch pad. Drag the nose cone onto the top, the fins onto the sides and the round window onto the middle. Once the window is in, the alien can climb aboard. Then drag the whole rocket to the planet.
- What does Play do?
- It tells the story back. The board goes back to how it started and does every move again, in order, with a line underneath saying what happened.
- Can we share the story we made?
- Yes. The share link carries the whole story, so whoever opens it can press Play and watch it told back.
